Heavy Burden is the third bonus mission in Halo: Campaign Evolved. This guide covers the full walkthrough for its three main objectives — Best Served Cold, Two-Fisted Cyborg Justice, and Tunnel Vision — including all collectible locations, encounter strategies, and checkpoint notes. The advice is based on a solo Legendary playthrough, but the tactics work on any difficulty.
Best Served Cold
The mission opens with Johnson in a large white room. Immediately to your right, a Needle Rifle leans against a box; behind that box is an Active Camo. Grab both if you don’t already have them.
Follow Johnson through the door. Melee the sleeping Grunts ahead to conserve ammunition. In the next room, an Elite patrols left to right — melee him from behind if you’re fast, or pick him off with the Needle Rifle. Turn left to find more Grunts, Jackals, and an orange Elite. Clear them from range, then push down the hallway.
You’ll enter a room filled with Jackals and a few Elites. Melee the shield Jackal to your right from behind, then focus on the Elites. Use the entrance ramp as cover. Be ready for awakened Grunts carrying two Plasma Grenades to rush you. When the room is clear, go through the door in the middle.
The next room contains Grunts and a babysitter Elite. Grenades work well. Then take the tractor beam on the right — this is the downward beam that slows you, making you an easy target. Instead, take the left beam upward and use the rear barricades for cover. Two shielded Jackals and two Elites await; clear them from the barricade.
In the hallway, take a quick detour left to find a dead Marine with a shotgun. Continue right, fill up on Needler ammo in the small room. An orange sword Elite will rush you — the shotgun is effective at close range.
Multi-Tier Battle Arena and Hunter Pair
Enter the next room, a multi-tier arena. Do not take the tractor beam on the right (it is the “down” beam). Take the left beam up and use the barricades in the back for cover. Priority targets are the Needle Rifle Jackals at the rear. Remember where their bodies fall to refill ammo.
Exit left into an empty room — you’ll use it for the upcoming fight. Proceed to find a pair of gilded Hunters. Before they detect you, shoot one in the back with the Needle Rifle. When they advance, retreat into the empty room, using the center-column grenades. Separate the pair if possible, then use the shotgun on an exposed back. Johnson can help.
Move through the Hunter room and the marked door. In the hallway, three Elites await. Use the hallway for cover. Then you reach a room with a large bridge and a smaller bridge. Two Elites push the smaller bridge as you enter. Either kill them while they run, or use the angle from the smaller bridge to clear the larger bridge. Jump or walk across the big bridge to reach another tractor beam room.
Overshield Location
Before taking the tractor beam, turn left down the hallway. Behind the three Covenant boxes at the end is an Overshield.
Jump into the tractor beam with Johnson. At the top, a small party includes an Elite and Grunts. The Elite spawns left, so take him out first.
Suspended Walkway and Eye Patch Skull
On the suspended walkway toward the Tolerance’s bridge, use the unlocked door before the main crossing to reach the higher side walkway. At the far end, the Eye Patch Skull sits on the narrow ledge to the right of the locked door. Effect: disables auto-aim for every weapon when active.
Bridge Command Room
In the bridge command room, clear Jackals from the upper level first, then prioritize ground-floor Fuel Rod Elites. Pick up a dropped Fuel Rod and return upstairs to use it on the late Hunter pair that appears.
After winning the bridge fight, do not immediately follow Johnson through the upper door. Instead, enter either unlocked ground-floor door, continue through the armory rooms, and find the Harmonious Clarity Terminal behind the weapon pods on the left side of the back room.
Two-Fisted Cyborg Justice
After the terminal, you’ll backtrack through the giant open white-and-gold multi-level room. Jump from the nearby circular platform to the central stone spire with yellow foliage to collect the Grunt Birthday Party Skull at its top. Effect: Grunt headshots trigger a celebratory effect.
Tunnel Vision
At the start of Tunnel Vision, you enter a circular nexus with a window. Use it to separate and track the two Hunters. Activate the two panels on the left and right of the central platform to begin the gondola section.
Efficient Skull on the Gondola Run
After restoring gondola power, when the transport passes between two Covenant-filled side platforms, sprint-jump onto the left platform. Reach the back-right corner before the out-of-bounds timer expires to take the Efficient Skull. Effect: enemies killed while you are at full health drop additional ammunition.
Gondola Combat
On the moving gondola, the safest fallback position is crouched near the central console, with your back against the upper lip. Prioritize Elites and Brutes that can board. Avoid jumping off; the transport will not wait.
Hangar and Final Ground Fight
In the hangar, use Fuel Rod fire against the active Wraith and Shade turret. Cross the small bridge toward the parked vehicles. A Ghost is available for the final ground fight but is optional.
Seraph Space Section
The final section puts you in a Seraph. You have rapid Plasma Beams with a lead-target circle and lock-on Fuel Rod Cannons. First destroy marked turret clusters and their exposed generators. Then escort the marked dropship, intercepting priority ships before they ram the Burden of Proof.
