Use this checklist for the released game

Halo: Campaign Evolved launched July 28, 2026. The Premium early-access period and pre-order window are over, so this stable URL now answers the practical task that replaced them: what should a player check before the first current launch or a clean reinstall?

Historical early access does not unlock again after purchase. Use editions comparison for current Standard, Premium and Upgrade boundaries.

1. Confirm the license you actually have

Before downloading, identify the purchase path attached to the account:

Standard Edition includes the base game;
Premium Edition includes the base game and named Premium digital extras;
Premium Edition Upgrade requires separate base-game access;
eligible Game Pass access is subscription-based and does not grant a Steam or PlayStation license.

Do not treat expired early access or a former pre-order bonus as a guaranteed current entitlement. Read the live product basket for your region and platform.

2. Leave enough storage for the game and updates

The Steam listing requires 100 GB available space. The July 29 update was listed as a 20.2 GB download. Those values describe different things: one is available-storage guidance, while the other is a specific patch download.

3. Launch through the storefront client

On Steam, launch from the Steam Library. The official known-issues list says opening HaloCampaignEvolved.exe directly may start without a Steam connection and lead to sign-in failure, severe slowdown or a freeze.

4. Check the current driver or BIOS warning

The July 29 build displays a warning when it detects an AMD or NVIDIA GPU driver with known issues. The official issue list also identifies a BIOS/microcode condition for some Intel 13th/14th generation systems.

Do not install a random driver or BIOS from a search result. Record the current version, read the newest official notice, and use the correct hardware vendor channel.

5. Link the intended Xbox Network account

Steam and cross-platform features use an Xbox Network/Microsoft account. The July 29 update added Xbox gamertag display throughout the linking process.

Before confirming, verify the displayed gamertag is the identity you want associated with shared progression and cross-platform friends.

6. Prepare co-op identities before starting

For online cross-platform co-op:

each player should use the intended platform and Microsoft accounts;
add cross-platform friends through the Xbox network;
confirm the Fireteam leader and desired campaign progress;
remember that navigation markers wait for every Fireteam member to pass them.

7. Know the narrow launch blockers

Two official warnings are especially useful before a campaign session:

in Two Betrayals, do not destroy the banshee after the first generator; doing so can block progression;
during cinematics, a display refresh rate that is not an even multiple of 30 Hz can cause stutter, and pausing/resuming can desynchronize audio and video.

8. Separate release facts from older launch marketing

Current facts:

released July 28, 2026;
first update published July 29;
available on PC, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5;
supports up to four-player online co-op and two-player console split-screen;
includes the rebuilt campaign and three Operation: METEORITE missions.

Historical facts such as early-access dates and pre-order bonuses remain useful only when checking an old receipt or entitlement. They should not be phrased as current calls to purchase.
